R.E.M. LIVE CD/DVD RELEASE OUT OCTOBER 16TH!

On October 16th, R.E.M. will release its first ever live CD/DVD in a career that has spanned 27 remarkable years. The dual package, titled R.E.M. Live, features 22 songs from the group's memorable performance at the Point Theatre in Dublin on February 27th, 2005. R.E.M. Live was filmed by acclaimed director Blue Leach (Depeche Mode, Snow Patrol) who accompanied R.E.M. on their 116-date tour into 33 countries in support of Around The Sun. Just two years earlier, Leach's deft camera work and artistic video mix during R.E.M.'s Manchester Move Festival performance made a strong impression on the band. Here, Leach skillfully brings together his signature techniques to capture R.E.M. doing what they do best at one of the most celebrated venues on their 2005 worldwide tour.
R.E.M. Live features songs spanning the band’s many studio albums, including rare performances of "I Took Your Name" from 1994's Monster and "Ascent of Man" from the band's most recent studio album Around The Sun as well as the singles “(Don’t Go Back To) Rockville,” (featuring bassist Mike Mills on lead vocals) from 1984’s Reckoning, "The Great Beyond" from the Man on the Moon soundtrack, "Imitation of Life" from 2001's Reveal, and the previously unreleased crowd-pleaser and set closer "I'm Gonna DJ."
R.E.M. Live is not to be confused with R.E.M.'s recent "non-shows" at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin (June 30th-July 5th 2007). The actual show with actual songs actually did happen in February 2005, and it is sheer coincidence that it took place in Dublin other than the fact that when R.E.M. is in Dublin, great things seem to happen.
The track-listing for R.E.M. Live is as follows:
"I Took Your Name"
"So Fast, So Numb"
"Boy In The Well"
"Cuyahoga"
"Everybody Hurts"
"Electron Blue"
"Bad Day"
"Ascent Of Man"
"Great Beyond"
"Leaving New York"
"Orange Crush"
"I Wanted To Be Wrong"
"Final Straw"
"Imitation Of Life"
"The One I Love"
"Walk Unafraid"
"Losing My Religion"
"What's The Frequency, Kenneth?"
"Drive"
"(Don't Go Back To) Rockville"
"I'm Gonna DJ" [previously unreleased]

Sounds interesting... the trailer looks nice enough... however, can't say I'm excited just yet.
W...
Can't wait. After the disappointment of not getting tickets for the Olympia concert this is something I will look forward to. Concert in the point was brilliant.
Pwhoor...... fantastic : )
I have been waiting for R.E.M. to release a live show for years. This is great news and cannot wait to hear/see it. The setlist leans heavy on the new stuff which is great but it would also be great if they would finally release the definitive live show with the original line up as well. A live cd/dvd release with Bill Berry behind the drums is long overdue. I know that myself and all the other diehards would love to have a dvd/cd of a show from The Work Tour or The Pagaentry Tour., hopefully this will be the beginning of more dvd/cd's from R.E.M.'s archives. I'm looking forward to 10/16/07, this will be the music release of the year, feels like getting an early Christmas present. Thanks R.E.M.---CHEERS!
Just heard the news, fantastic can't wait & the trailers such a teaser!
I don't understand why they're hyping this as if R.E.M. had never released a live DVD before. What about "Tour Film," "Road Movie," and "Perfect Square"? I'd rather watch any of those than this one, because frankly I don't want to spend an hour and a half looking at Michael with his "raccoon mask" on. Also, why release the CD and DVD as a package? You've got the audio track on the DVD, so a CD seems unnecessary.
cant wait for the dvd to come out.. i was in the front row both nights in the point depot so hope to see myself on it! and i'm gonna dj will be on it so that's an added bonus. :)
Today is Saturday morning (13 October) in Milan, Italy. I have a copy of R.E.M. Live that I bought yesterday (12 October) in one of the main stores of the city (MONDADORI MEGASTORE, Corso Vittorio Emmanuele). I don't know if there is a different release date for every country, but shouldn't MONDADORI respect the release date? It is good, anyway. I got to get a copy before the vast majority of the world!
Live albums most always don't surpass the original studio recordings. I very rarely listen to live albums more than once. I don't get excited when I hear about a live album coming out. The anticipation of new material on a studio recording is the ultimate. I like REM's live DVDs released previously, but I don't watch them repeatedly, like I play their CDs. This is my opinion and this is how I roll.
